BASF opens new admixtures plant in Kenyan capital

Posted on : Thursday, 4th September 2014

German chemical manufacturer BASF has opened a new admixtures production plant at Nairobi in KenyaAccording to company officials, the facility will enable the company to meet the rising demands for construction chemicals in East Africa.

Dick Purchase, head of regional business unit for construction chemicals at BASF Middle East, West Africa, CIA and Africa, said, “We are now able to rapidly supply our customers with admixtures for all cement and aggregate types, whether their construction projects are located in the urban areas of eastern Africa or in more remote sites.”
BASF officials said that the company will manufacture standard and custom-made performance admixtures from the MasterRheobuild and MasterGlenium product line at the site. The admixtures aid in increased concrete strength and workability retention, especially in areas like Nairobi or Kampala where heavy traffic may delay the transportation of concrete to the construction site.
The production plant is located in the Mlolongo area of greater Nairobi and is well connected to roads as well as the Mombasa Port. The goods will be delivered within Kenya and neighbouring countries such as South Sudan, Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania.
Through the new plant, the demand for multi-storied buildings and durable infrastructural construction would increase, BASF added.
